DesignGuide.com Launches on a New Platform After 20 Years.
DesignGuide.com launched this week on a completely rebuilt platform. The site had been running on the same infrastructure for over 20 years. The content was strong. The platform was not.
Variant Media handled the full rebuild: new tech stack, new site architecture, new SEO structure, and a paid subscription layer introduced for the first time. The goal was a platform that would serve the site for the next 20 years — not patch the last 20.
A few things stand out about this project. First, the speed improvement. Load times dropped significantly after the rebuild. Faster sites rank better and convert better. That is not an opinion — it is how search engines work.
Second, AI readiness. DesignGuide now has the structured data and clean content architecture that AI-powered search engines need to understand and surface content. As AI discovery becomes a larger traffic channel, this matters.
Third, the subscription model. DesignGuide has built an audience over 20 years. The rebuild gives the business a way to monetize that audience without disrupting the free experience that built it.
The full case study is available on the Variant Media work page.
